Progress Notes:- We have in place the infrastructure, support staff, and faculty necessary to support research as evidenced by our success in winning competitive awards and in peer reviewed publication.
- Faculty engage in local, state, national, and international forums that benefit from their knowledge and technical expertise.
- UAS provides research facilities to conduct scientific research and hands-on research experience for undergraduate students.
- Faculty Senate produced, disseminated, and published the faculty research guidelines
- The Faculty Development Seminar, established in 2005, provides peer led development for new faculty and staff.
- The Chancellor's Special Project Funds are awarded to faculty for projects that:
Extend student learning;
Promote student scholastics;
Improve regional processes or programs;
Encourage program development;
Provide measurable outcomes in high demand programs; retention rates; and enrollment.
- PITAAS provides project-based fellowships to faculty in areas of cultural standards.
- Wilson Endowment Funds are available for faculty professional development
- Over the course of the last several years, UAS has reallocated funds for the purchase of a building and $50.0 for research match to increase our capacity for natural resource research.

Progress Notes:- Currently, UAS faculty have research projects that align with recommendations formulated by the US National Committee on IPY (us-ipy.gov/.) They include Southeast Alaska Monitoring Network for Science, Telecommunications, and Educational Research (SEAMONSTER) which provides for a “critical infrastructure, and technology” to transmit research data from field sites via a wireless network; Arctic Seals Population Structure which involves a predictability study of Arctic seals response to rapidly declining ice cover.

Progress Notes:- The Vice-Provost for Research has 30 years of experience conducting research with the UA system, and provides mentoring and leadership to the growing number of Juneau faculty with research assignments.

Progress Notes:- The University employee tuition waiver is a long standing employee total compensation benefit.
- Grants and Contracts training provided in August 2006 to staff and faculty to strengthen the research administration process. Nationally recognized experts in the field were brought in to provide the one-day training.
- Established ongoing web page development training for faculty and academic support staff (2003).
- UAS has institutionalized staff development day on campus. Day long training is provided with a new theme for content selected annually.
- The Certified Public Manager Program is designed to enhance the supervisory skills of public sector managers.
- Administrative Services provides specialized staff training in functional support areas related to Banner Finance, Procurement, Budget and Grants Administration, Banner HR and Personnel.
- Managers encourage active staff participation on campus and system work teams.
- Created regional Web Development Group (2001) to assist faculty and academic support staff develop departmental web sites.
