The Alaska Science Catalog (ASC) is now the home of the ACRC project database. All projects that had been submitted to ACRC are now being hosted through the ASC. The Alaska Science Catalog is sponsored by the University of Alaska EPSCoR program and is being developed by the University of Alaska-Geographic Information Network of Alaska (GINA). ASC is a collaborative effort that includes participation of University of Alaska campuses in Fairbanks, Anchorage and Juneau as well as local, State, and Federal agencies, NGO's, and many others.
ASC is based on a distributed system of Catalog implementations that provides support for specific groups of users. Member Catalogs include the North Slope Science Initiative, EPSCoR, Alaska Energy Authority, Arctic LCC, Southeast GIS Library, Southcentral Alaska Science Catalog and the Geographic Information Network of Alaska. ASC ties together records from each of these individual Catalogs and serves as a "one" stop location to search for scientific and geospatial data, reports, maps, documents, and projects within the entire Catalog system. An additional goal of ASC is to compile important statewide data. The Alaska Coastal Rainforest Center project database can now be found as a collection within the ASC. The ACRC is still collecting research projects and data records for the database and if you would like to have your work posted on the ASC, please contact: Sarai Timothy at email@example.com.
The goal of Catalog is to avoid duplication of effort. Not all data are stored on Catalog. ASC links users to sites where appropriate public access and stewardship of data are already provided. However ASC can provide data management support where access or stewardship resources are required. The result is a compilation that allows for the appropriate discovery and efficient distribution of scientific data products.
ASC can be expected to evolve and grow. If you have ideas for improved service and functionality or if you have data that should be included please contact any Catalog administrator.
