Meet the Staff

Biography:

Born in Mount Edgecumbe, AK, Joe was raised as a commercial fisherman in Yakutat. He is a member of the Teikweidí (Brown Bear) clan, eagle moiety of the Yakutat Tlingit tribe. After graduating Yakutat High School, Joe attended college in Southern California. He received a Bachelor of Arts in political science from UCLA in 1996 and earned his Master of Arts in American Indian Studies in 1998. In 2001, he received a Juris Doctorate from Loyola Law School.

Joe is a member of the Alaska Bar Association, the Sealaska Board of Directors, and the Juneau Lions Club.

Biography:

In 2000 I graduated from Beaverton High School in Beaverton, Michigan.  I moved here to Juneau that fall as a Freshmen here at UAS. After two years and an Associate degree later, I decided I wanted to see some of the country and take a break from school. I traveled around out West before heading back to Michigan. After a while I felt the pull to come back to Juneau. I once again made the drive up the Alaskan highway in the spring of 2003. I went back to school in the Fall of 2003, this time to get my Bachelor of Business Administration.

 It was here in Juneau that I met my future husband, we got married in early 2004. My husband and I have 3 kids, our son Connor born in 2005, our daughter Claire born in 2007, our son Cole was born in 2010, and our daughter Cassidy was born in 2013.

Though I don't get the chance to visit my family in Michigan very often, Juneau is where my heart is and I consider this to be the best place to live! 

Biography:

Eric grew up in Fairbanks Alaska. After graduating West Valley High School, he attended the University of California Santa Cruz, earning a Bachelor of Arts in History in 2005.  Between 2007 and 2009, Eric served as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Eastern Uganda.  After returning to the United States, he undertook several projects with the University of Alaska Fairbanks and the Bureau of Land Management.  In 2012 Eric moved to Juneau and began working at the University of Alaska Southeast.
 
Eric greatly enjoys skiing, boating, diving and coffee.

Biography:

I was born and raised in Juneau, Alaska.  After graduating from Juneau-Douglas High School, I attended Santa Barbara City College in Santa Barbara, California but realized that home was where the heart is, and transferred to the University of Alaska Southeast where I earned my Bachelor of Arts in Social Science in 2013.   During my years at UAS, I served on the UAS Student Government as both Senator and Vice President, Students in Free Enterprise (now Enactus), and have done various service work around the Juneau community. As an alumni of this outstanding university, I have also participated in an anthropological field school to the Komi Republic, Russia, where I was able to do hands-on ethnographic work on Komi culture and reindeer herding. Most importantly, my passion for people, culture, and their diversity continues as I am able to share my amazing experiences at UAS with prospective students. I enjoy being outdoors, playing hockey, and traveling.
