What are the application fees?

The non-refundable fee for certificates and associate degrees is $40 dollars; the fee for bachelor degree applications is $50 dollars; the fee for graduate applications is $60 dollars.

What is the deadline for the application?

The application deadlines are:

  • August 18th for the Fall 2011 Semester
  • January 3rd for the Spring 2012 Semester
  • April 30th for the Summer 2012 Semester

Students are encouraged to apply six to nine months prior to the beginning of the intended semester in order to have all of their enrollment needs (financial aid, advising, registration) completed.

Some programs have different application deadlines, check program listings for more information.

How long will it take to process my application?

Depending on the time of the year, if your application is complete it will be processed within approximately 48 hours. You will receive an email notifying you we have received your application and of any remaining requirements.

After your application is complete and we have all of your transcripts, your application will be reviewed for acceptance. Acceptance decisions are completed at the end of each week.

Must I complete an application for admission if I just want to take classes and not get a degree?

No. You should fill-out an application only if you are interested in registering online or in pursuing a degree program. Otherwise, in order to sign up for classes, you simply need to fill out a Course Registration form.

Can I live outside of Alaska and complete a UAS degree?

Yes, UAS offers a few select distance degrees to students who reside outside of the state of Alaska.

I can’t afford the application fee. Can it be waived?

Waivers are limited and evaluated on a case by case basis. For consideration due to extenuating circumstances, contact the Director of Admissions at (907) 796-6100 or toll free at (877) 465-4827.

What are the minimum requirements to be admitted?

The minimum requirements to be admitted include:

  1. a completed admission application
  2. paid application fee
  3. official transcripts with a GPA of a 2.0 or higher*

Once we have your complete application, application fee and official transcripts (high school transcripts showing *GPA and graduation date or GED showing passing scores or Ability to Benefit Test, and/or official post-secondary transcripts from all accredited institutions) you will be considered for admission. For high school graduates from Alaska, you must also pass all sections of the High School Qualifying Exam to be admitted.

*If your cumulative GPA is below a 2.0 you may be admitted on probation and will be required to maintain a minimum GPA of 2.0 during your first semester.

What is considered an official high school, GED or college transcript?

We consider a transcript to be official if it has been sent to us directly by the issuing high school or college. If the transcript is given to you in a sealed envelope, in order for it to remain official, the envelope must be given to the Admissions Office in the original sealed envelope from the sending institution(s).

I was admitted for this year but I'd like to postpone my entrance into the program. Can I defer my admission to a later year?

If you are unable to attend the semester you are admitted, your application may be postponed for up to one year. If you would like to postpone your application, please contact Admissions at (907) 796-6100 or email admissions@uas.alaska.edu.

What if I submit an application but decide not to attend?

You are not bound to an academic program if you decide not to attend the University of Alaska Southeast. Students are free to attend the college of their choice; however we request that you contact contact Admissions at (907) 796-6100 or email admissions@uas.alaska.edu as soon as possible so that we may inactivate your file.
