James Risdon (Vice President)

James grew up in the greater Los Angeles area before moving to Juneau in August 2012 as a transfer student to the University of Alaska Southeast.  He came to UAS for the amazing research opportunities offered here that aren’t offered at most universities in the lower 48.  James hopes to complete his Bachelors of Biology degree by the spring of 2014.   His emphasis is on Astrobiology and he is working towards acceptance into the University of Washington’s PhD program in Astrobiology.  James is also interested in conducting undergraduate research into the behavioral patterns of gray wolf (Canis lupus) populations around Southeast Alaska.  In his spare time he likes to go hiking and rock-climbing, volunteering at various organizations around Juneau (United Way, the Humane Society and Auke Bay Elementary), playing piano and guitar, and being active in the local music scene.

Kayti Coonjohn (Secretary/Treasurer)

Kayti is originally from Seattle, Washington, where she attended the University of Washington. While studying for her double major Bachelor’s Degree in Social Science with an emphasis on Economics and History and Environmental Science, she has become involved with both the new UAS Honors Program, and the SAA board. Her goals are to graduate with honors while working to better serve the students on campus through participation in the planning of fun events on campus through the SAA board. Kayti will continue to pursue degree options here at the University while she works as a staff member in the IT Department.  In her spare time, Kayti enjoys yoga, aerial silks/acrobatic exercise, figure skating, ice hockey, oil painting, walks around Auke Lake and Mendenhall Glacier, watching old movies and tasting the teas of the world!
