What is SAA up to?

Hello Everyone! Here's a few things that are coming up that I wanted to make sure you know about:

1. This SATURDAY, September 19 we are doing our first DINNER AND A MOVIE --- We are showing the new "STAR TREK." Dinner is catered by Abby's Catering, and while I don't have the menu yet, Abby has never let me down. We told her we wanted "futuristic food" so it should be creative and yummy! If you have an Orange 09-10 SAA Sticker on your ID you get in for free, otherwise it's $5

2. ELECTIONS! Send me an email if you are interested in serving on the board. We meet about once a month, and we work around the elected officers' schedules. Katie Summerour is our President this year, and we have openings for 4 more seats: Vice President, Secretary/Treasurer, Director 1 and Director 2. Please apply by Friday, September 25. Just let me know your name, contact info, tell me about yourself, and why you want to be on the board.

3. DAY OF CARING: Volunteer on an SAA Team for United Way Day of Caring. The Juneau community day is October 1 (Wednesday) and they are having a special session for us on October 3 (Saturday), like usual. Volunteers get a free T-shirt!
October 1 -- 2 teams needed to help the Food Bank collect food at 2 locations from 7-9 PM (probably at 2 of the grocery stores)
October 3 --- meet at Student Housing Lodge for a quick breakfast and briefing then carpool to locations. Currently we only have 1 location: Puddle Jumpers Day Care in the basement of Resurrection Lutheran Church downtown.
Volunteers needed to:
** shampoo carpets (they have 2 machines rented)
** painting a fence outside
** line kitchen cabinets with shelf paper
** put up shelving
** some indoor painting
** other miscellaneous cleaning

4. ETIQUETTE DINNER is on November 4 this year, a Wednesday. RESERVATIONS ARE REQUIRED. This year we are giving PREFERENCE to people who have NOT attended in the past. If you have attended, we will put you on the wait list, and if someone cancels, we will pull people from that list to fill their spots. If you are interested please let me know ASAP. I will need to know your Name, Email, Phone Number, and your Major (or area of interest if you don't yet have a major).
What is Etiquette Dinner? Enjoy a full 7-course meal while practicing etiquette skills and learning the art of mixing and mingling. Learn proper table manners you may have missed as a kid -- important skills for impressing your date, dinner at the boss' house, formal affairs, etc. RESERVATIONS REQUIRED to attend. FREE for SAA members, nonmembers not able to attend.

If you are interested in any of these opportunities please let me know.  --- Keni Campbell, Alumni Relations Manager 796-6569 or alumni@uas.alaska.edu
