Bachelor of Arts, Art

boniThe B.A. in Art program supports the University’s goal of providing high quality undergraduate liberal arts programs with a “solid base of arts and sciences courses, designed for intellectual and personal growth and the pursuit of meaningful employment and responsible, informed citizenship.” Career opportunities for graduates include artist, designer, arts administrator, art instructor, gallery and museum director, and computer-related fields.

The B.A. in Art provides a broad foundation in the liberal arts as well as specialized training in visual arts. The program is designed to provide students with:

  • Knowledge of the history of world cultures as reflected in art, including the contributions of women and Native American artists
  • Advanced skills in a variety of art techniques
  • Advanced skills in critical thinking, research, writing, speaking, and problem solving
  • Practical experience in a professional setting (e.g., teaching, exhibition experience, applied art and illustration: electronic design, newspaper, magazine and television).

Faculty

The art program benefits from a distinguished and dedicated faculty.  These individuals work hard to maintain a healthy balance between teaching expertise, professional creative work, scholarly research, and community service.
