The Capstone Experience
At the conclusion of their studies, all BLA Majors complete a Capstone experience course or project in their area of emphasis. The product of this Capstone experience -- thesis, written or creative work, performance or media production, research or project report -- becomes the culminating element in the Student Portfolio.
The Capstone options are:
• HUM 499 Capstone: this course, offered annually by a Humanities faculty member, assists students in designing and completing their Capstone paper or project.
• Internship (491): under the supervision of a faculty advisor, the student completes a prescribed assignment with an designated agency or organization.
• Practicum (494): the student works under the direct supervision a faculty member on an collaborative research or training project.
• Independent Study (497): with faculty supervisor approval, the student designs and completes an individual course of study.
Individual students work closely with their BLA faculty advisors to determine which of these Capstone options best fit their programs.
