Program and Maps of Campus and the Area: Here is the meeting program (Updated 6/21), and for those coming to UAS, here is the campus map. An information packet for the Juneau area will be available for you at UAS Housing or your Hotel of choice. An interactive map of the City and Borough of Juneau's bus service is located at

Juneau Area Information Packets: We have supplied the hotels and University Housing information packets of the Juneau Area. So, when you check in, make sure you get a packet from the front desk - let them know you are attending the PNW MAA Meeting and would like a packet.

Getting to UAS Housing: If you are using a rental car or your own transportation, some fairly good maps of the Juneau area are available at the Airport and at the Ferry Terminal (see also the links given above). Taxi's are quite easy to get at the airport. Keep an eye out for other meeting participants so that you can carpool. If you are taking a taxi to UAS Housing, just tell the driver you need to be dropped off at the UAS Student Housing Lodge which is opposite Banfield Hall. Check-in are done in the Lodge, where the Housing Office is located.

UAS Student Housing is located on University Drive off the Mendenhall Loop Road (a.k.a. the Back Loop Road). The best turnoff is right by the Auke Bay Harbor/DeHarts Store, which is next to the University on the Glacier Highway.

Getting to your Hotel: All three hotels have courtesy shuttles to and from the airport. You may call the hotel at the airport or give them advance notice by email.

Transportation to and from the Meeting: Whichever hotel you are staying at, transportation to and from the meeting (Thursday, Friday and Saturday) will be provided. Anticipate morning pickups at about 7:00 a.m. from the Goldbelt and a little later for the Valley hotels. Breakfast will be provided at the meeting.

Please be sure to contact Brian at bgblitz@uas.alaska.edu or (907) 796-6506 if you have any questions.

The Meeting: UAS and the UAS Mathematics Faculty are delighted to be hosting the 2011 Pacific Northwest Section Meeting. Whether you are from:

  • Down-South (the Pacific Northwest States or beyond);
  • Across the Ice-Field (British Columbia, or beyond);
  • Up-North (Alaska, the Yukon or the Northwest Territories); or
  • Southeast (The Inside Passage Neighborhood)

We hope you will come share your ideas and expertise, experience Juneau hospitality and enjoy some of the many treats the area has to offer.

For those unfamiliar with Annual MAA Section Meetings, these meetings provide:

  • Valuable professional development opportunities for teachers of mathematics/statistics from the secondary school level and up.
  • An opportunity for teachers and professionals who use mathematics or statistics to share ideas with, and learn from others.
  • An opportunity to meet dedicated and widely recognized scholars in the discipline.
