Message from the Dean

As the Dean of the School of Arts and Sciences, I want to personally welcome you to our Web site and to encourage you to explore the site to gain an understanding of our School's programs and faculty.

Photo of Pat BrownThe School of Arts and Sciences constitutes the liberal arts core of the University of Alaska Southeast.  We provide instruction in Natural Sciences, Humanities, and Social Sciences.  Courses are taught by full-time faculty on the Juneau, Ketchikan and Sitka campuses as well as by dedicated term and adjunct faculty.

UAS is small, which means that even as freshmen, our students have opportunities to work closely with senior faculty in intimate classroom and research settings.  We have a strong commitment to experiential learning and work to connect theory with practice, through field work, study abroad opportunities, and internships.

I invite you to learn more about the School of Arts and Sciences and the exceptional faculty, students, and research opportunities that make us a vibrant, vital component of the University of Alaska Southeast.

We think you will agree with us that the School of Arts and Sciences is a great place to pursue an education while taking advantage of the unique coastal rainforest, tidal and glacial environments, and the rich cultural heritage of the area.
Patrick W. Brown
