A Designated Emphasis in the Liberal Arts provides a focused course of study not available through other baccalaureate degree programs offered through UAS. Currently, there are two Designated Emphasis options:
Communication
The Designated Emphasis in Communication is individually planned bewteen the student and BLA faculty advisor.
• Primary Field (24 Credits, 15 at the upper-division level).
• Secondary Field (15 Credits, 6 at the upper-division level): These courses as selected by the BLA Communication faculty advisor.
• Capstone (3 Credits): COMM 491 Internship or COMM 494 Practicum.
Language Arts
For the Designated Emphasis in Language Arts, the student completes two different fields from either Communication, English, or Theatre. An emphasis in Language Arts is particularly beneficial for students considering graduate study in a Masters At Teaching (MAT) program.
• Primary Field (24 Credits, 15 at the upper-division level).
• Secondary Field (15 Credits, 6 at the upper-division level).
• Capstone (3 Credits): COMM/ENGL/THR 491 Internship or COMM/ENGL/THR 494 Practicum.
