REU APPLICATION DIRECTIONS
Our Deadline for 2013 has passed. We are no longer accepting matterials. Status updates will be emailed to all applicants who submitted a form when final selections have been made.
Send all items to: reu@uas.alaska.edu Please note that the "uas" stands for University of Alaska Southeast. "uaa" will send your message to the Anchorage program.
1) Arrange for a letter of recommendation that includes comments on your academic ability, motivation, work habits, and potential for success in the program. We need a signed copy on university or agency letterhead. Digital or scanned signatures are fine. Ask that the letter be sent as an attachment to reu@uas.alaska.edu. For filing purposes, this file name convention would be appreciated: student's last name, first name and writer's initials. ( For example, Dr. James Peterson's letter for Susan Williams would be named WilliamsSusanJP.pdf )
2) Email your current, college transcripts to the above REU address. If your college is a member of escrip safe service, this is an easy way to send official secure transcripts to us. A scan of an unofficial copy is fine as long as it is legible and complete.
3) Write a cover letter (1-2 pages) describing why you want to participate in the REU field program, your interests in biology, your academic or career goals, which projects interest you most, and reasons why you believe you will benefit from and contribute to the program. Please send this as a PDF attachment the above REU address. This naming convention for the file would be appreciated: last name first name + cover. ( for example SmithJoeCover.pdf ) Do not send resumes.
4) Fill out our electronic application form.
The application deadline is Feb 25th, 2013. I will send an email to the address given on the application form when all of a student's materials have been received. When the mentors final selections are made, we will notify all applicants ( via email ) of their status.
