Characteristics: Usually brown or blue among other colors; perfect rhombohedral cleavage; subconchoidal fracture; pearly, vitreous luster; transparent to translucent.
Found in zinc deposits, especially, in carbonate rocks.
Smithsonite is used as a minor ore of zinc and as mineral specimen.
