What's New

The Alaska Alpha Chapter of Pi Mu Epsilon

UAS has been granted the privilege of becoming home to Alaska's first Chapter of Pi Mu Epsilon, the National Mathematics Honorary Society.

The Installation of the Alaska Alpha Chapter, by Dr. Colin Starr of Willamette University, will take place in the evening of Thursday April 17, 2014 (April also happens to be Math Awareness Month). After this, the first UAS mathematics majors to become lifetime members of Pi Mu Epsilon will be inducted and the Alaska Alpha Charter will be signed by these Charter members.

To close the events of the evening, Colin will give a talk on a subject that he enjoys a lot - Geometry. While the results discussed in this talk are deep (and breathtakingly beautiful, as Colin put it), the mathematical prerquisites are minimal. All in the Juneau area, students in particular, are invited to attend. More about the talk will be posted here nearer the talk date.
