There are many opportunities for social science students to get hands-on experience in their major field of study. This enhances your career prospects and your chance of being accepted into graduate school. These opportunities include:
• A long-term established program involving students from across the state: The Alaska Universities Legislative Internship Program
• Some short-term opportunities students have participated in over the past few years: • Study-abroad experience in France for one month in summer for History • Archeological research experience in Misty Fjords National Monument • Ethnographic research in Prince William Sound and Glacier Bay National Park
• On-going development of internship/research opportunities in Juneau such as • Internships with Alaska Mental Health Trust; Alaska Departments of Public Safety, Revenue, and Transportation; Alaska Council on Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault, etc. • Undergraduate research opportunities in Applied Child Psychology Research • Collaboration with the U.S. Forest Service
