Drinking Water Awareness ActivitiesThe University of Alaska Southeast (UAS) Environmental Technology Department in Sitka developed an educational activity manual related to rural village sanitation with a grant from the National Science Foundation (Grant No. 9553680). Any opinions, findings, and conclusions or recommendations expressed in this material are those of the author(s) and do not necessarily reflect the views of the National Science Foundation. Visit the NSF Projects page (you will leave the ATTAC web site) to view other funded activities.
The manual contains 29 individual activities, intended for high school level students, emphasizing village sanitation; water, wastewater, solid waste and personal hygiene issues. Each activity contains an abstract, objectives, the State Standards addressed, time frame and schedule, a list of materials needed, teachers' preparation directions, description of student activities, extension activities, assessments, data sheets, references and resources. ATTAC is dedicated to continue this program. To download FREE, individual activities, please complete the form below. Your information will not be shared. We may use it to contact you for a brief evaluation. It became apparent that the activities would be much more valuable and more likely to be used if resources could also be provided to the rural teachers. A grant from the USEPA supplied items for a "kit" to support the manual. The kit contains supplies and equipment that would not normally be found in rural high school labs and that would be difficult or costly for most rural schools to obtain; items such as pH Meters, a variety of test kits, reference books, videos and posters. For kit availability, please contact ATTAC. **Important** Before beginning any activity, please read the General Safety Considerations. Always have the Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) available when using any chemical or reagent. MSDS' are supplied with the chemical/reagent and can be downloaded from the web. |
