What is Performance Based Training?

PBT_Graph

Performance Based Training (PBT) is a unique training program for surface water treatment plants. The goal of PBT is to improve plant performance by transferring priority setting and problem solving skills to plant staff through five separate training sessions.

PBT is designed to teach small system operators to extract the most performance from their system with the least capital investment in order to consistently meet the more stringent turbidity requirements of the Surface Water Treatment Rule regulatory framework. In order for the PBT to be effective, the following commitments/resources are required:

  • Commitment to attend all sessions
  • Commitment of administration to attend first and last session
  • Commitment of plant staff/administration to complete "homework"
  • Continuous on-line turbidimeters on individual filters
  • Jar testing apparatus
  • Access to computer with word processing and spreadsheet capability
  • Possibly host a one-day session at your plant
ATTAC is developing the PBT methodology and will deliver the training to Alaska water treatment systems. In addition, ATTAC intends to use this methodology as a stand-alone advanced operator training tool for those systems who voluntarily wish to optimize their systems to enhance public health protection.

The first phase of the training will begin in Southeast Alaska. If you are an operator in Southeast and would like more information about this training program, please contact ATTAC.
