O'Clair, R.M. and C.E. O'Clair. 1998. Southeast Alaska's Rocky Shores. Plant Press. Juneau, Alaska. pp.161

This book contains a brief overview of the life history, disributuion and characetristics of most of the invertebrates present in S.E. Alaska. If you are just beginning to research an animal, this book is the first place to start. It gives you enough general information to get started.

Pettibone, M.H. 1953. Some scale-bearing polychetes of Puget Sound and adjacet waters. University of Washington Press. pp. 281

This book has excellent line drawings of  polychete heads, setae and prostomium. The drawings are detailed, allowing you to classify organisms by looking at it rather than reading about it. In addition to the pictures, a txonomic key is present.

Pernet, B. 1998. Host use and diversification in symbiotic polychaetes. PhD. Dissertation. University of Washington. pp. 1-102

If you are looking for extensive  information and primary literature relating to Arctonoe spp. this book is great.  It is the only reference that I found that contains a substantial amount of information on Arctonoe.

Pernet, B. 2000. Reproduction and development of three symbiotic scaleworms (Polychaeta: Polynoidae). Invertebrate Biology 19(1):45-57

Wagner, R.H. and D.W. Phillips. 1979. Commensalism of mutualism: Attraction of a sea star towards its symbiotic polychete. J. Exp. Mar. Biol. Ecol. (39):205-210

This paper primarily discusses the interactions of Arctonoe vitta and its hosts but there is some mention of Arctonoe fragilis.
