Glossary
  • anterior: the region of the body associated with the head. 
  • dorsal: the region of the body associated with the back, such as the dorsal fin of dolphins 
  • ectoparasite: a parasite that lives on the outside of its host
  • eukayotic: cells containing membrane bound organelles.
  • extracellular: occurring on the outside of cells.
  • gonopore: a pore used to release or accept gametes.
  • hemocoelomic fluid: fluid occurring in the hemocoelom, or blood filled cavity.
  • nephridia: a liver-like organ used in urine production.
  • nephridopores: pores in the outside of the animal, representing the end of the nephridea, where urine is expelled from.
  • posterior: the region of the body associated with the anus, at the opposite end of the head.
  • ventral: the region of the body associated with the belly, at the opposite side of the back.
  • ventrolateral: occurring on the ventral side.
