Nucella lima

Nucella lima is a whelk that is found on rocky intertidal beaches between the middle to low intertidal range.   N. lima is a carnivorous predator that causes much damage in its environment to the prey around it, especially the Pacific Blue Mussel, Mytilus trossulus.   This whelk is of special interest to biologists due to its voracious tendencies.  Unfortunetly not much is known about N. lima and it would therefore be a good project for a graduate student.
