Taxonomy
  Kingdom Animalia
    Phylum Cnidaria

     Class Anthozoa (corals)

       Subclass Zoantharia

        Order Actinaria (anemones)

          Family Actiniidae

           Genus Urticina (formerly Tealia)
             Species Urticina crassicornis*

*Urticina comes from the Greek urtica/uro ( nettle or to burn) while Crassicornis derives from the Latin crassus (thick, heavy) and corneus (horny).

Scientists have classified organisms into various taxa, which brings animals together into certain categories based on their anatomical, physiological, morphological, and evolutionary backgrounds. Taxonomy is the resulting system of defining animals according to their Kingdom, Phylum, and subsequent categories.  This system is constantly changing  and improving (which accounts for the recent change in the Genus Tealia to Urticina given to this particular anemone), and continues to do so today. Therefore, since this taxonomic change for the Urticina crassicornis is still somewhat new, research on this species might be listed under the name T. crassicornis until all books and websites have been updated.
