Examining gender construction and risk in extreme skiing. How is gender understood and constructed within the world of extreme sports? Charlene Weaving discusses the death of Canadian extreme skier Sarah Burke from a sport feminist perspective. In doing so, she considers classic philosophic positions concerning women in sport and the idea that sport involves a celebration of the body-subject while women athletes are often depicted as the body-objects. She explores how these positions apply to women athletes in contemporary extreme sports.
