is a list of internship opportunities along with a brief description of the types of positions each organization offers. Alaska-based internships are listed first, followed by national and international opportunities. It is important to note that application deadlines
vary with each organization. When linking to an organization's website, if you are not

To coordinate an internship for
academic credit you will need to visit with a faculty advisor from your

The Center for Alaskan Coastal Studies (CACS) is a community-based nonprofit that provides educational, research, and land stewardship programs at three locations: the Peterson Bay Field Station on the south shore of Kachemak Bay, the Carl E. Wynn Nature Center a 140-acre upland preserve outside of Homer, and the in-town Homer Headquarters facility. Two Naturalist Intern positions are offered each year. Compensation is $1,200.00 per month plus housing.

The Denali Commission offers four 12-week paid internships for undergraduate and graduate students. SCEP offers work experience directly related to your academic field of study. It provides periods of work and study while you are attending school. The STEP program enables students to work part time during the school year or in a summer job, but does not need to be related to your field of study.

SURFO Program^

Offers a 10-week summer program that focuses on the quantitative aspects of Oceanography. Students participate in cutting-edge research programs and are exposed to a wide array of other ocean-related research topics. Specially designed lecture series expose students to the breadth and depth of Ocean Sciences. A series of workshops also provide participants with the basic tools required for a success in graduate school, regardless of the scientific field. The application deadline is March 1.
