NOTE: A successful candidate must be willing to commit to living and working in a small Alaskan town (winter population around 500) for a portion of an Alaskan winter. This will be a challenging cold and dark time. During the coldest and darkest part of winter, “sunshine” may only be available from around 9 AM to 3 PM. Travel to the outside world may become restricted due to severe winter weather conditions – the South Klondike Highway may close due to avalanches, the planes may be unable to fly due to heavy weather, even the normally reliable ferry might be unable to make port occasionally due to severe storms. Expect rain, snow, cold and wind in short order. Most of the businesses open during the summer close during the winter and therefore it is possible there will be no bars or restaurants open for a portion of the time you are here. Expect the variety of food available from the two local grocery stories, especially fresh food, to be limited during the winter. Skagway does have a good public library and you will be working in the park library. There is also a DVD rental store in town. The nearest movie theaters, however, are in Whitehorse, 110 miles away.

If you can’t be self-sufficient, please do not apply! Start and end dates are not flexible.
