The Alaska Seafood Marketing Institute (ASMI), Department of Commerce, Community and Economic Development (DCCED) State of Alaska is seeking candidates for an Accountant position.

This position is located in Juneau, Alaska and reports to the Finance Director. The position is the primary support contact for the International Marketing program which is funded by federal grant funds and will be responsible for fiscal and administrative functions. This position is also a backup travel coordinator.

Responsibilities include:

  • Summarize and report on the financial picture of the international budget currently at $7 million. This includes maintenance of an excel projection workbook with many tabs, formulas and links. This is reconciled on a monthly basis to the state accounting system
  • Pull Alaska Data Enterprise Reporting (ALDER) audit trails for federal auditors. Manually add claim number information to audit trail to assist the auditors in their review of documents
  • Code revenues/abatements for international appropriation
  • Track revenues for the international program and complete federal reimbursements on website for federal grant
  • Ensure that supporting documentation that meets the federal grant guidelines are attached to an invoice that is coded to the Market Access Program (MAP) funds

Minimum qualifications:

  • Any combination of education and/or experience that provides the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities in accounting, budgeting, or financial management, equivalent to those typically gained by an associate degree in finance, accounting, or a related area of study, and one (1) year of experience, preferably in the public sector, in accounting, budgeting, or financial management.
  • Additionally, successful candidates will demonstrate: 

    • Knowledge of accounting theories, concepts, principles, and methods
    • Skill in analyzing accounts, interpreting the significance and interrelationships of financial data, and preparing accurate, complete, and concise financial reports and statements.
    • Ability to prepare sound financial management recommendations to organization managers.
