Summary: The Alaska Public Defender Agency is currently recruiting AmeriCorps members to serve in offices across the state as Social Service Coordinators. In this position, you will work one-on-one with Public Defender Agency clients. 

You will develop relationships, teach financial literacy, help clients access resources, and accompany them to court hearings. You will be on the front lines, working alongside dedicated colleagues to make a difference in the lives of some of Alaska’s most vulnerable residents.

This is a wonderful opportunity both to see the legal system up close and to improve the health, safety, and stability of Alaska’s community. 

This is an ideal opportunity for pre-law or social work students, though all interested and qualified candidates are invited to apply!

Eligibility requirements:
  • Must be 18 or older and a US citizen/permanent resident;
  • Have at least a high school diploma or its equivalent; and
  • Be able to pass a criminal history screening check

Positions are available both in urban and rural offices for an 11-month term, from January 2, 2018, to November 30, 2018. Application period is open until October 2nd, 2017.
