Job Posting

Company: The Program Department at Camp Denali and North Face Lodge
Location: Denali National Park
Position: Program Manager
Requirements: See job description

Comprised of an Anchorage guest house and two family-owned and operated wilderness lodges in Denali National Park, Denali National Park Wilderness Centers, Ltd. (dba Camp Denali and North Face Lodge) offers premier accommodations and, at its two remote wilderness lodges, specializes in naturalist-led hikes into the sub-arctic backcountry.

The Program Department at Camp Denali and North Face Lodge supports the company mission of "providing active learning experiences and fostering stewardship of the natural world through a tradition of excellence, community, and place."  Toward that end, the Program Manager is in charge of guest services and educational opportunities, including the narrated tour through Denali National Park en route to Camp Denali and North Face Lodge, and naturalist guided excursions conducted under a concession contract with the park.  Other program elements include evening presentations given by naturalist staff or visiting guest speakers through the Special Emphasis Series.

Responsibilities include:

  • Recruiting and hiring naturalist guides in cooperation with Management and the Personnel Manager.
  • Training, scheduling, evaluating, and supervising naturalist guides.
  • Helping to select, training, supervising, and evaluating guest hosts.
  • Overseeing risk management of guided hikes.
  • Acting as liaison with the National Park Service (NPS) regarding concession contract compliance and evaluations/coaching.
  • Coordinating the Special Emphasis Series.
  • Working 1-2 days/week in the summer in standard work shifts (i.e. as a Naturalist Guide, Driver, Housekeeper/Server, or otherwise).
  • Helping to answer reservations calls and emails, and perform other collective office tasks as needed.
  • Additional duties are determined by coordinator’s skills and company needs.

This position is situated at our remote lodges deep within Denali National Park for the summer months (mid-May through mid-September), and in the relatively only slightly less remote area near the entrance to Denali National Park, 20 miles south of Healy for the remainder of the year.  Housing and meals are provided at no cost for the summer months; you are responsible for your own housing and board in the winter months.  Interest in living in a close knit community, and in remote areas is a necessity.
