PURPOSE OF POSITION: The Office Medical Assistant (MA) and Community Outreach Assistant (COA) is a combined role that delivers patient care services in an Ideal Option clinic and outreach to the local community. As an MA you support providers and patients through a variety of tasks related to patient care, clinic maintenance, and communication with other Ideal Option departments. As a COA you will work to build awareness of Ideal Option’s services and relationships with organizations and individuals with the goal of generating new patient referrals for treatment, significantly contributing to the opioid response in each community. An ability to be comfortable with ambiguity and a flexible schedule is a key requirement for this role. 

This job may also include cross training as a member of the Quality Review team on a case by case basis as required by the business.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIP: The MA/COA will report to the Regional Office Coordinator regarding MA related duties and to the regional community outreach coordinator with regards to COA duties 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The following functions have been determined by Ideal Option to be essential to the successful performance of this position which includes but is not limited to:

As a Medical Assistant you will:

• Checks patients in for their appointments, confirms and updates patient’s demographics, obtains release of medical records from the patient, collects co-pays from the patient and makes nightly deposits at the bank

• Obtains vital signs and breathalyzers from the patient, collects urine samples and prepares for laboratory testing, witnesses’ patients for observed dosing, performs skin assessments, draws patient blood samples

• Maintains cleanliness of the clinic, and may order cleaning supplies as needed in the clinic

• Maintains continual sustained attendance, works cooperatively with others and as part of the Ideal Option team, trains new Office Medical Assistants on essential functions of the role

• Occasional travel

• Other projects and duties as assigned.

As a Community Outreach Assistant you will:

• Implement outreach activities as directed by the regional outreach coordinator

• Represent Ideal Option at committee meetings, attend conferences and events, provide information to individuals and organizations on Ideal Option and medication-assisted treatment.

• Maintain contacts and a pipeline of potential partnerships with organizations such as jails, hospitals, inpatient treatment, primary care providers, law enforcement, and behavioral healthcare providers in a shared CRM tool. 

• Provide support and information as requested by community based organizations

• Other duties as assigned

Competencies:

• Complies with national PHI laws including HIPAA and 42 CFR Part 2

• High School Diploma or GED

• Maintain MA licensing through the state/agency (as applicable per state), maintain BLS/CPR, certification, CMA preferred 

• Ability to type 50 words per minute, strong computer skills 

• Strong vocabulary, spelling, and punctuation

• Ability to communicate effectively with patients and adapt to individual needs

Minimum Requirements: 

• High School Diploma or GED

Working Environment: 

• General office environment: Works generally at a desk in a well-lighted, air-conditioned cubicle/office, with moderate noise levels

• Ability to lift and carry approximately 25 lbs. about 50 feet

• Frequently required to stand, walk, sit, use hands, handle documents, bend and stoop, and reach with hands and arms

• Periods of stress may occur

Physical Demands: 

• Activities require a significant amount of sitting at office and work desks and in front of a computer monitor. 

• Some walking and standing relative to interaction with other personnel.
