Come join our team and help raise healthy fish to be used for harvest and
conservation purposes for The State Oregon! Round Butte Hatchery is located just 6
miles from the small rural town of Madras Oregon on the Deschutes River and just a
short distance from Bend Oregon dubbed by many as the “outdoor playground of the
West” due to all the outdoor recreational opportunities nearby.

Round Butte Hatchery raises almost 480,000 spring Chinook smolts and 180,000
summer steelhead smolts annually to be used for Deschutes River sport and tribal
harvest opportunities as well as raises 30,000 legal trout to be stocked into Lake
Simtustus located just downstream of the hatchery. The hatchery also assists The
Confederated Tribes of Warm Springs as well as Portland General Electric with the
reintroduction of spring chinook, summer steelhead, and sockeye salmon above
Round Butte Dam.

Hatchery staff consist of 5 full time employees and a six month seasonal position.
The person in this position will perform all fish culture duties to meet production
goals and maintain equipment, grounds and buildings as needed. A diverse set of
experience will be gained in this position as the employee will assist and have
responsibilities in all phases of fish culture including; collecting, sorting, handling,
and transporting adult salmon and steelhead at the fish trap, spawning adult salmon
and steelhead to remove eggs, rearing and incubation of fish eggs, ponding fry /
juveniles and raising approximately a year until smolts or legal size for release.

Qualifications: Requires an Associate degree in Fisheries Technology, Aquaculture
or Aquarium Science; OR eighteen months of fish culture (care of fish) experience.
(six months of fisheries, fish screens, wildlife or related habitat work experience will
count toward this experience). A higher level degree in Fisheries Science or a
closely-related degree will substitute for Associate degree.

Salary: $2,696-$3,831/mo. Generous benefits package.
