The Department of Labor and Workforce Development, Division of Employment and Training Services, Unemployment Insurance (UI) Program is currently seeking to hire an Accounting Technician II. The incumbent will join an audit team as support to Field Auditors in the Anchorage, Fairbanks, Juneau, Kenai and Mat-su offices.

This position provides tax information and assistance to employers and advance level support to Field Auditors. The incumbent receives and processes monetary redetermination requests; these require careful monitoring to ensure timely resolution in order to meet unemployment insurance (UI) payment timeline standards. Also the incumbent receives and processes requests for transfer of liquor licenses or tax clearances on employer owned businesses. This includes verifying the status of the business and if there are any pending tax liabilities, the position takes necessary actions to object the requests until the employer´s tax situation is resolved.
This position analyzes tax accounts and initiates collection actions on delinquent employers after consultation with a Field Auditor.
This position responds to requests for information from the public and employers regarding Employment Security Tax (EST); analyzes, interprets, and applies EST laws, policies, and procedures; utilizes the ESTeR tax and the TaxWEB systems; assists employers with preparation of contribution reports and wage schedules and with completing various forms and applications; and assists employers with questions related to the tax account balances, adjustments, and/or corrections.

This position researches discrepancies in employer accounts, employee wage records, and prepares documents for accounting adjustments and refunds. Knowledge of accounting principles and relevant provisions of the law and regulations are required to perform the work.
