Wesley Haslam: 2014 Outstanding Graduate — Liberal Arts
Wesley Haslam was selected as the Regional Outstanding Graduate in the Bachelor of Liberal Arts degree. Wes has graduated with a 4.0 GPA in all UAS courses, all while being on full time active duty in the US Coast Guard throughout his term as a student at UAS, being a husband and father of two children, and moving several times while studying via e-Learning. Wes is an Interdisciplinary Studies Emphasis major with concentrations in Social Science and Legal Studies. As part of his activities in the Bachelor of Liberal Arts, Wes completed an independent study in sociology for his capstone requirement, and presented his research paper "Anti-Criminogenic Effects of Immigrant Neighborhoods" at the Annual Meetings of the Pacific Sociological Association this past March. After completing his time in the Coast Guard, Wes intends to go to law school and study immigration law in order to provide legal assistance to immigrants coming to the US, as well as to advocate for immigrants on legal and social issues. Congratulations Wes!
