2015 Outstanding Graduate

Bachelor of Arts, Special Education

Andrea Lynn Friesen

My UAS Experience

I am glad I chose UAS because I have learned so much from the professors and other students in the program. The online classes I have taken through UAS have been great because I truly feel that I have been able to get to know other students in the program. The small class sizes made class discussions very helpful and meaningful. Going through the Special Education program has taught me a lot about the different ways to teach unique students and I can definitely say that this program has prepared me for a future career in teaching!

About Andrea Friesen

Andrea is an outstanding student in class. She goes above and beyond in her assignments and participates fully in class discussions. Andrea worked at a tutoring center and participated in building a playground for all children in Sutton while completing the Special Education Program at UAS. Working with Andrea during her practicum and student teaching placements I have observed her working with students. She demonstrates a positive effect with the children and sincerely cares about their learning outcomes. She works well with her colleagues, families, and all stakeholders in the educational setting. Andrea differentiates work for students based on their needs. She incorporates Universal Design for Learning in her lesson plans and uses assessment to guide instruction. Andrea volunteered to stay for the remainder of the year in her placement after her coursework at UAS is complete because it is in the best interests of the students. She expands the mandated curriculum to include activities to meet all learning styles and engage her students in the content. Andrea will contribute significantly to student success in the school system.
