Donovan Bell

My UAS Experience

The biology department at UAS has great professors, small class sizes and a strong emphasis on undergraduate research. Additionally, the UAS campus is surrounded by diverse natural habitats, including temperate rain forest and the ocean. Together, these features create a unique learning environment that is found in few other schools.

About Donovan Bell

Donovan has been a UAS Biology student just two short years. Donovan was born and raised in Juneau, and first went to Montana State University for BS in Business Management degree. Sometime during his business degree program, Donovan realized he missed Southeast Alaska and that biology was way more interesting than business management. He returned to Juneau and enrolled at UAS in Fall 2013 after completing his Business Administration BS in Montana. Donovan has completed a BS BIOL degree at UAS in 2 years with a 4.0 GPA and top scores in nearly every class. Donovan has also conducted research on Dolly Varden at the Auke Creek weir – just off campus. Donovan has given professional poster presentations and talks on his research, and is working on a manuscript for publication that describes his efforts to identify with rigorous statistical models the cues that Dolly Varden use to migrate in and out of the Auke Creek. Donovan is smart, inquisitive, and has great self-discipline. He wants to pursue a graduate degree in ecology or evolution and to return to Juneau eventually for a career. The Biology faculty members and his peers can’t wait to see where Donovan’s sharp intellect and motivation lead him in the coming years.
