John Cook: 2013 Outstanding Graduate in Education
“John Cook demonstrated marked leadership and dedication throughout his time as a student with UAS and particularly during his year-long student teaching internship at Sand Lake Elementary in Anchorage. John was ever the example to his fellow students in his depth of reflection in his writings and his attention to the needs of his students.” —UAS School of Education
I chose UAS because of the outstanding Elementary Education program, warm and supportive staff and professors, beautiful outdoor setting, and unlimited possibilities available to students and families. A sincere and warm thank you especially to Dr. Jeffrey Lofthus, Alberta Jones, and host teacher Zan Zoske for providing me with the skills, kindness, and outstanding experience that I will forever remember and be grateful for.
I spent three years of my college career with my wonderful wife and two-year-old son exploring everything Juneau had to offer. I recently completed my senior year of college living in Anchorage and my internship at Sand Lake Elementary School. I had a wonderful experience being actively involved in my 4th grade classroom. My passion for education is strong and I plan to become an elementary teacher in Alaska. My host teacher during my 9 month internship, Zan Zoske, provided me with support and confidence that created a high quality experience. I also enjoy spending time outdoors, hiking, camping, and canoeing. I look forward to what the future holds for my family and I.
UAS' 2013 Juneau Commencement will be held May 5 at 2:00 p.m. at the UAS Recreation Center.
