Julie Decker : 2013 Ernest Gruening M.P.A. Excellence Award
Julie Decker has made Southeast Alaska her home for more than 15 years. In that time she has dedicated her life and her career to the fishing industry of Alaska. In addition to working with her family (husband Gig, daughter Helen, and son Sig) on their fishing boat out of Wrangell, Julie is a dedicated advocate of a public-private partnership for creating an innovative approach to stimulate the growth of the domestic seafood industry. In her former position as Coordinator of the National Seafood Marketing Coalition and currently in her position as the Development Director for the Alaska Fisheries Development Foundation, she has worked to help grow demand for Alaskan seafood, increase the revenue of local fishermen, and increase jobs related both directly and indirectly to the Alaskan commercial fishing industry.
Julie is the first M.P.A. graduate with a concentration in Natural Resource Policy. She continues to use that education as well as her years of experience to advocate for positive change in public policy in Alaska.
