Scott Betterton : 2014 Co-Outstanding Graduate — CIOS Network Technician
Scott Betterton is a retired Chief Petty Officer, USNR currently employed in the Maintenance Department of the Galena City School District. His naval career experience included maintenance of radar and radio communications systems and working as a nuclear reactor technician. Upon retiring he worked as a control and instrumentation technician for a major manufacturer down south where he completed two years of undergraduate courses towards an Electrical Engineering degree. He and his wife then decided to move to Alaska and the remote town of Galena on the Yukon River about 200 miles west of Fairbanks. Desiring to earn a computer related college degree in a remote location, Scott realized that e-Learning was his only alternative.
Scott selected the Computer Information Office Systems Networking Technician program at UAS and greatly appreciated the quality of instruction. Betterton was selected as the Outstanding Student in CIOS due to his exemplary course work and positive impact on the Galena City School District as he used his new knowledge and skills to address complex computer technology issues.
Scott enjoys hunting and fishing and is an amateur radio operator in his spare time.
