IN THE SANDBOX

There are three ways to bring content into Cascade Server:

  • Type in the content and add photos and links using the text editor interface.
  • Paste content in from another source. Don't add any extra formating in the text editor other than the paragraphs and headers. The formating can be done in Cascade Server with css. If you have already created css in an html environment, you may provide that css code and it will be included in your site's 'skin.css' file. This file also determines the page background and title area color.
  • Zip an entire folder of pages into your site and have Cascade Server unpack them. Due to the clean-up required as shown above under "paste", this step is the exception. Similar to how you take items to "second hand" when moving, the same is recommended when brining pages into the CMS. The files and pages can be automatically integrated into the site folder, but for this to work the pages must be content only - no navigation or framework. This operation should be done only by a CMS administrator. If you think this might be an option for your project please let the IT Helpdesk know and they can get the ball rolling.
While in the sandbox check each page for the following:
  • Links: are they working correctly?
  • Images are they displaying properly? Do the have an "alt" tag (you will be prompted for this after saving a page if they don't have one)?
  • Metatags: fill in this information through the edit interface under the "metadata" section.

OUT OF THE SANDBOX

When your pages have been edited it is time to publish to the live server. Once published to the live server, your site can be viewed by all. Depending on your departments workflow, it may be that a supervisor has publishing rights and contributors can only send pages to the test sever for review.
