TEMPLATE SAMPLE

Template KeyThe current CMS site-wide template for html pages contains several design and feature sections that are best described by illustration. To view a full-size image of the template select the image at right or select template for a larger window:

  1. Sitewide Includes: Both the bottom and top includes are added automatically in the template and provide site-wide navigation. Some items are necessary for legal reasons to include the AA/EO statement and text-only version so as to provide an accessible view of the UAS Website to meet ADA and section 504/508 standards and improve support for people with disabilities and users of assistive technology.
  2. Site Background: The background color (grey: #CCCCCC) would appear on all pages/sites in the CMS. The pages themselves will float in the middle of the background. This color is locked due to its proximity to the top and bottom includes.
  3. Page Background: This color area (dark blue in key) is selected during the 1-on-1 meeting. One would want a consistent color across all pages in the site as opposed to jumping colors across pages of a site.
  4. Left-side Navigation/UAS Logo: The color in this area is set at UAS blue (#003366) due to issues related to #2 above. If customizable could also lead to issues with navigation clarity.
  5. Dept/Office Contextual Navigation: This menu builds as a site is developed. This navigation "degrades gracefully" in older browsers and won't leave viewers stranded euo to old code or platform/browser specific code. This navigation also shows a viewer where they are at in the site structure by bolding/highlighting current location.
  6. Hard-coded Links: These are preset links to information your service or school wants to insure viewers visit. These links are contained in a block and can be changed by editing one file.
  7. UAS Search: In the CMS the search has been moved from the top include so as to provide more room for content. We are also looking for a solution to provide sub-directory searches so users can target a search to a specific school/dept site. When a solution is obtained another button would be provided next to the UAS Search button.
  8. Dept/Office Contact Info: For many services it is crucial to provide contact info to include location, email...etc. This information is contained in a block and can be changed by editing one file.
  9. Content Area: This is the area that you provide your content. This area would include text, pictures, tables of data...etc. The content area can not exceed 550 pixels in width (see sample image widths in pop-up key) or the table will blow. This max width applies to images, tables or graphic elements. The content area can be edited using a wysiwyg editor or html view.
  10. Bread Crumbs/Title Area and Repurpose Methods: This area can be customized with color to match or compliment your service/dept graphic (#11 below) and/or headline styling. Bread crumbs are automatically generated and show a viewer where they are in your site. The repurposing icons appear on the right-side and will be added as features are provided. The repurposing methods include: RSS, Text-only, PDF, Email message, printer-friendly and Handheld/PDA detection. As these features are added it will require no changes to existing pages in the CMS.
  11. Service/School Graphic: This graphic would service to identify your service/dept while also indicating their location in the organization. In the example given, it's obvious you are viewing a Financial Aid site while also showing that Financial Aid is a part of Student Services. This graphic, along with styling choices are discussed during the 1-on-1 meeting and selected prior to the CMS Prep.
