UAS Construction Technology funded under a grant from the Cold Climate Housing Research Center is working with Tlingit-Haida Regional Housing Authority to construct and monitor PERSIST (pressure equalized rain screen insulation structure technique) housing in their new subdivision in Juneau. Monitoring will include comparison of a PERSIST constructed home to a conventionally constructed dwelling.

Adaptation of PERSIST method for use in
Alaska. Original Canadian version would incorporate PERSIST in the roof system.

Installation of bituminous membrane over the exterior wall sheathing.

This membrane is the exterior drainage plane and the air and vapor barrier.

Rigid foam is placed over the bituminous
membrane. All the required insulation for the building can be placed on the exterior of the building.

Insulation, air, vapor and water sealing is now completed.

This is the stage where furring strips would be attached over the foam sheeting into the framing creating a rain screen siding approach.
