Local 302 Operating Engineers & UAS Apprenticeship Program

Heavy Duty Equipment Mechanics-repair and maintain many types of earthmoving, hoisting, and paving equipment used throughout Alaska. They also work at power generation stations, gravel pits, and shops.

Heavy Duty Service Oilers-lubricate all types of earthmoving equipment from the largest crawler tractors down to the smallest pump and everything in between.

Meet all the below qualifications
- At least 18 years old by May 1 of the next year
- Have High School diploma or GED
- Have at least a C average in all math classes in High School or 50% in math on GED
- Have valid Alaska driver's license
- Have no DUIs during last 3 years
- Have mechanic's hand toold by May 1
- Be (and stay) drug free
- Be physically fit
Must show the below documents
- Birth certificate
- 3 year driving record fro DMV
- Social Security Card

Enroll in UAS Diesel Department - Heavy Duty Occupational Certificate (27 credits)

- DESL 125 Hydraulics
- DESL 171 Electrical
- WELD 120 Welding
Spring Semester
- DESL 130 Refrigeration
- DESL 180 AC Electrical
- DESL 250 Brakes
- DESL 255 Suspension
- DESL 260 Power Trains
Step 3

Complete step 2 with a C+ average or higher

Your name will be given to the Alaska Operating Engineers Training Trust (AOE/ETT)

Your name will be placed on the apprenticeship wait list

When an apprentice position opens, the next name on the list will be called to become an apprentice
-
You will need to pass a drug test at this point
-
If you pass, you become an apprentice with the Local 302 Operating Engineers Training Trust and join the Local 302 union

You will be awarded training hours for your UAS training
