Alberta started teaching at UAS in the fall of 2010.  Prior to UAS, she was teaching in Montgomery County Public Schools (Maryland), while teaching for UAS as an adjunct faculty professor. Before the metro DC experience, she retired from the Juneau School District.  She spent 20 years teaching and coaching various middle school sports.  She spent her last 3.5 years in public school coordinating various large federal Native education grants.  Alberta also spent many summers designing and coordinating western science and Native ways of knowing camps for secondary students.

She greatly enjoys her doctoral program, as she is in the final phases of her research.  Her Ph.D.  dissertation research topic is entitled, Alaska Native Scholars: A Mixed-Methods Investigation of Factors Influencing Ph.D. Attainment.  She is Tsimshian (killer whale phratry), Alutiiq, Hispanic, Russian, German, and Swedish.

In addition to academia, she enjoys spending her free time with family. Alberta and Peter (husband) enjoy watching Bruce (sr./son) play high school basketball. She likes to play volleyball, enjoys traveling,  and learning about other cultures.  She greatly enjoys cooking and anything having to do with Jane Austen.  She looks forward to having time to do other things following her Ph. D. attainment.
