Biography:

2010-Current: Assistant Professor (tenure track), Elementary Education-UAS Juneau

2007-2010: Adjunct faculty UAS Juneau

2008-2010: Elementary teacher, Montgomery County Public Schools, Silver Spring, MD (Highland View ES-5th grade, Sligo Creek ES-2nd grade, long term sub nearly all year)

2005-2008: Federal Grant Coordinator, Alaska Native Education Program (ANEP) grants, including summer Native Science camp coordinator with the grants, Juneau, AK

2003-2009: 2015 Summer Camp Cultural Coordinator, Alaska Native Wisdom Enrichment Retreat (ANSWER) Camp-Sitka and Nenana (Western Science, Native knowledge)

1988-2005: Elementary and Middle School Teacher, including 9 years as middle school coach for various sports, Juneau School District



Alberta’s dissertation was entitled, Alaska Native Scholars: A Mixed-Methods Investigation of Factors Influencing Ph.D. Attainment.  She is Tsimshian (killer whale phratry, Gishbudwada), Alutiiq, Hispanic, Russian, Norwegian, Swedish, and German. She received a Mellon Dissertation Fellowship Scholar from the U. of Alaska Fairbanks during her dissertation writing phase. She also received scholarships from Koniag Educational Foundation during her graduate programs.

She looks forward to now having time to do other things as she finished her doctoral program. She will now work on publishing her research work. Alberta and Peter (husband) enjoy traveling, particularly to other countries with exploring their landscapes and culture. Alberta greatly enjoys sports, cooking, and anything having to do with Jane Austen.
