Captain Rice has been employed as an adjunct instructor with UAS Ketchikan for 5 years now and has brought a wealth of practical, hands-on experience to the program.  He enjoys taking on challenges and is always ready, willing and able to teach new classes and curriculum.

Captain Rice has made his way up the hawespipe, starting out with the Alaska Marine Highway System in 1994 as a steward and retiring this year as Bosun of the Malaspina.  In addition to his time with AMHS, Captain Rice has been seasonally employed in the Cruise Industry as Master of small passenger tour vessels.  He is currently employed by Allen Marine as relief Master for their fleet of catamarans, working on various vessels carrying from 60 to 150 passengers.  For fun, Captain Rice enjoys swimming, cross-country skiing and relaxing at his remote cabin.
