Cheryl Johnson (ED628) and Marsha Gladhart (Program Coordinator) attended the University of Alaska's iTeach workshop in Juneau the week of June 2-6. The iTeach workshop is facilitated by the UA Center for Distance Education and covers a variety of online teaching tools including UASOnline, Blackboard, Elluminate, blogging and a wide variety of browser add-ons to organize and retrieve resources. Robin Gilcrist, ED Tech candidate and instructor at UAS, also attended. In the photo below, Cheryl is standing on the far left and is wearing a green top. Robin is directly below her in a dark jacket. Marsha is third from the right in the middle row, wearing a blue and white stripped shirt. Carol Gering (center of photo in a light top), Heidi Olson (far right in light blue), Maureen O'Halloran (seated between Marsha and Carol), and Matt Olsen, ED Tech candidate and instructional designer for UAS, led the workshop. Matt is wearing an orange jacket in the back row. Photo courtesy of Center for Distance Education. (What the photo doesn't show is how quickly we scattered when the dock began to sink with all of us standing at the end!)
Cheryl Johnson has recently accepted a new position with the Anchorage School District. She will be a Technology Teacher Expert with the ASD Training and Professional Development Department. Her primary responsibilities will include working with the Professional Development Team to oversee tracking of professional development of staff and structuring a system to develop and house online training for ASD staff in order to assist staff in developing content for online training; videotaping, editing, and producing trainings; and developing a library of online trainings. Congratulations, Cheryl! Bruce McKay has accepted the position of Principal/teacher at Lower Post BC which is British Columbia's most northern school and is a public school on a First Nation reserve. Here is a photo of a recent visitor to his school. Renee Wood is moving to San Antonio and will be greatly missed at South High in the Anchorage School District. Her family will start the trek south afer ED 634 in Anchorage this June. Renee, her mother, and her two daughters will drive to their new home, stopping along the way to see Jasper and Yellowstone. Renee was born and raised in Anchorage and this will be her first visit to many of the states along the way. Once the family gets settled Renee will be looking for a position as a librarian or campus instructional technology specialist. Amy Riddle will begin her second year as a business/information technology instructor at Mat-Su Career and Technical High School in Wasilla. Trevor Snyder and his fiance (Talia Wiacek) will be getting married July 9th in the Galapagos!!! They will spend three weeks in Peru/Ecuador and the highlight of their trip will be a week long cruise in the Galapagos culminating with their wedding on Santa Cruz Island. (Now there is someone who knows how to spend their summer!)
