Keeping in touch! « Back to Topics

Let me know if you move, change jobs, get a promotion, have a baby, or have any other life changes that you want to pass on to your classmates and me.

Naomi Piehl has a new daughter, Hannah, who was born in April and who attended ED 634 this summer with her mom. A real charmer!Ron Snyder

Ron Synder is currently working as a Secondary Principal at Kyiv International School.  He has put the skills he learned at UAS to good use at his current school by implementing the KISMET (Kyiv International School Mobile Education Technology) initiative.  All classes are being equipped with interactive whiteboards, classes are migrating into the virtual world with an active Moodle experience and the Middle School is beginning a 1:1 laptop program.

In the summer, Ron will begin an EdD program at the University of Bath.  His focus will be on Education Technology and its impact in International Schools.

Sarah Peterson has accepted a new position as edTech teacher with the Anchorage School District.  She will be working with 5-8 schools providing support and teacher training to integrate technology into the curriculum.

ED 634 On Juneau Campus « Back to Topics

Nine ED tech candidates attended ED 634 Classroom Integration of Audio-Video this summer on the Juneau campus.  It was great fun to have them on campus, sharing experiences and getting to know each other. Pictured below in top row from left to right: Instructor Alan Degener, Jon Kludt-Painter, Thad Henry. Middle row: Lindsey Glenn and Robin Gilcrist. Front row: Matthew Stark, Alma Elia, Kevin Lauscher. Kneeling: Naomi and Baby Hannah Piehl. Not pictured: Sarah Petersen.  Thanks to Alan for photoshoping the group into one photo. They were too busy to stay still long enough for a group photo!

UAS on Parade « Back to Topics

Since most of you don't live in Juneau, you don't get to see our presence in the community. One of the fun things UAS does is to march in the Juneau July 4th parade.  We toss out candy, give away pennants, and have a great time. I never miss it, and this year was a really sunny, warm day and an especially long parade--2 hours to watch it all go by!  UAS won the Best Spirit Award and the Best Custom Car Award.  Here is the front line photo. I'm on the right holding the banner. Little blonde in red dress waving her pennant is my granddaughter who also marches with us.
