Student employment on campus can be a convenient resume builder where there’s no traffic to deal with as you leisurely walk to work. Positions around campus can be very diverse. You may find yourself working at the Student Activities Center as a Climbing Coordinator, as an Admissions telecounselor or assist in the Student Resource Center as a web designer. Campus employment means your classes are a first priority as you earn money.
Off campus employment information is available through Career Services and often, faculty. Juneau offers a lot of opportunity. As a small community, students are often fortunate to find positions with Fish & Game, US Forest Service, Mendenhall (Glacier) Visitor Center and more. With the State Capitol here Legislative internships each Spring are incredible learning experiences. Alaska Permanent Fund offers internships each year that can enhance your resume considerably. Join the Summer Job Fair in February to meet local employers that offer positions as naturalists and guides, both terrestrial and on the water. You may be a rafting or kayak guide or a naturalist aboard a boat or at the glacier. Local retailers offer several positions to add to your repertoire. UAS students have also been hired for summer positions in Glacier Bay National Park, Mendenhall Glacier Visitor Center and other exciting and scenic areas. |
