UAS is surrounded by the last great expanse of temperate rainforest in North America, on the shores of a playground for humpback and killer whales. Cutting edge undergraduate field research makes the most of our spectacular setting in the Tongass National Forest, along the Inside Passage and the Juneau Ice Field; a “living classroom.” You can study the effects of climate change on nearby glaciers or marine mammals in their natural habitat.

At the University of Alaska Southeast, small class sizes guarantee an intimate learning experience. Professors and instructors choose to live and work where dramatic natural vistas inspire innovative workforce training, scientific research and creative arts. You can study archaeology on land first inhabited by Alaska Native People, take the stage with Alaska’s flagship theatre company or study English Literature on the shores of a mountain lake. In your free time, go kayaking, fishing, hiking, skiing or snowboarding.
