APPLYING FOR SCHOLARSHIPS

2008 - 2009

Please review these instructions

  • Step 1:  Apply for admission to a UAS degree or certificate program by February 15, 2008.  The admission application can be completed online.
  • Step 2:  :  Go to UAOnline and complete the required online scholarship application.  Once logged in, choose Scholarships under the Student Services menu.  The UAOnline portion of the scholarship application, including the personal essay, is required: you will not be considered for scholarships if this is not completed.
  • Step 3:  Return to this page and complete the supplemental questions below if you wish to apply for these specific scholarships.
  • Step 4: To receive full consideration for need-based scholarships for the 2008-2009 academic year, you must submit a completed Free Application for Federal Financial Aid (FAFSA) by February 15, 2008.  If you or your parents have not completed your 2007 income tax returns by this date, please complete the form using estimated income information and then correct the information as needed once your taxes are completed.

Applications received after February 15, 2008 will be considered only if funds are available.  Submitting an incomplete application or failing to adhere to the requirements will result in disqualification.

The Scholarship Selection committees begin meeting after March 1 and may continue into the summer months.  Every effort is made to notify successful applicants as soon as possible; however, it is impossible to send every unsuccessful applicant a response due to the volume of applications and scholarships.  To check on the status of your application, contact the Scholarship Coordinator at (970) 796-6255 or via email at finaid@uas.alaska.edu after May 1, 2008.

IMPORTANT NOTE:  You will not be considered for scholarships unless you are admitted or have applied for admissions to a degree program.  All selection criteria not required for scholarships will be obtained from your UA student record (e.g. degree program, academic major, class standing, etc.).  You must be sure your UA student record is as complete and accurate as possible.  Scholarship selection committees may contact you to request additional information.

Information on the specific requirements of certain scholarships can be obtained from the UAS Scholarships page. Scholarship committees evaluate applications according to established criteria.  Emphasis and evaluation can vary between committees, but generally the most important considerations are academic merit and financial need.

Some scholarship sponsors require additional information to award their scholarships. To be considered for the scholarships below, please attach the appropriate materials and submit them with this application by February 15, 2008. All additional materials should be clearly marked with your name and student ID number. Not all students will qualify for these awards; please review the criteria carefully to see if you qualify.
