TEACH GRANT
(Teacher Education Assistance for College and Higher Education Grant)
The TEACH Grant is designed for students who intend to teach full time in a high-need field at a public or private elementary or secondary school that the U.S. Department of Education has designated as having a high concentration of students from low-income families.
Students who receive the TEACH GRANT must fulfill a service obligation. (Refer to the TEACH Grant Fact Sheet below).
After reading the information on this page, if you think you are interested in applying for the grant, click on the link to the TEACH Grant Student Application Procedure and follow the process. You MUST meet with a College of Education Academic Advisor BEFORE you sign an Obligation Agreement.
- Up to $4000 per grade level of full-time students. (Amount will be less for less-than-full-time attendance)
- A cumulative maximum amount of $16,000 for undergraduate students enrolled in a teacher credential program
- A cumulative maximum amount of $8000 if you are a graduate student
Eligibility Requirements
- You must complete the FAFSA (although this is not a needs-based grant)
- Be a U.S. citizen or eligible non-citizen
- Be enrolled as an undergraduate in one of the approved UAS Bachelor degree programs, have junior status (having completed a minimum of 60 credits), and intend to enter the Master or Arts in Teaching Secondary Education, Science or Math endorsements upon completion of your Bachelor degree, or be enrolled as a graduate in one of the approved UAS graduate programs (see list below):

Have a 3.25 cumulative GPA for first year undergraduate student OR score above the 75th percentile on at least one admissions test.

Sign a TEACH Grant Agreement to Serve Service Obligation Agreement to teach for at least four academic years within eight calendar years of completing your program of study for which you received the TEACH Grant. Teach full time in a high-need field for the majority of the classes you teach in a public or private elementary or secondary school that serves student from low-income families
- Be classified as a highly qualified teacher (Scroll down to #23).
APPROVED UAS BACHELOR DEGREE PROGRAMS
- Bachelor of Arts in Biology
- Bachelor of Science in Biology
- Bachelor of Science in Environmental Science
- Bachelor of Science in Marine Biology
- Bachelor of Science in Math
Note: For all of these Bachelor programs, students must have completed a minimum of 60 credits and be intending to enter the Master of Arts in Teaching Secondary Education, Science or Math endorsement, upon completion of their Bachelor degree in order to qualify.
APPROVED UAS MASTER DEGREE PROGRAMS
- Master of Arts in Teaching, Secondary Education, pursuing a Science, Math or Foreign Language endorsement.
- Master of Education in Reading
- Master of Education in Special Education
