Accepting and Finalizing
After we have verified your application(s), we will send you an award letter with our estimates of your cost of attendance and the financial aid for which you are eligible.
UAOnline provides a means to review your financial aid award, monitor outstanding requirements, accept loans and scholarships, and check active messages with additional information or reminders. You can access UAOnline if you are:
- a continuing student;
- completely admitted to a degree program; and/or
- registered for your courses.
Although preferable when possible, access to UAOnline is not required to finalize your aid. Links to forms and web sites you can use to finalize your offer are listed below and on our forms page.
The following are the procedures you should follow to accept and finalize your financial aid offer:
1. Determine how much you need
We recommend you devise a budget to help determine your expenses. As an additional guideline, use our estimated costs of attendance, which are detailed on your award letter, available on UAOnline, and outlined on our Cost of Attendance pages.
2. Accept or decline your offer
You may accept all or a portion of your financial aid offer. Or, if you have decided to not accept any funds, please decline the offer.
If you still meet funding requirements, you may accept previously declined funds later in the academic year. To accept previously declined loan funds or to request a greater loan than what was originally offered, submit a loan revision request. Revised loans cannot be accepted on UAOnline.
Accept or decline your original loan and/or scholarship offer at UAOnline or download and submit an award acceptance form. You do not need to formally accept a Pell grant.

3. If you accept federal funds
Complete and submit the Financial Aid Refund Instruction Form, unless you submitted one in a prior term and don't want to change your preferences. Information on this form will be used to instruct the Business Office how to manage your federal funding.
If you want to borrow a loan
4. Choose a lender
Choose a lender. If you are a transfer student, or took out a student loan before, you are encouraged to borrow from your previous lender. If you are uncertain who your prior lender was, consult the National Student Loan Database or the National Student Loan Clearinghouse.
If you have not borrowed a Stafford loan before, or if you want to change lenders, you may choose a lender from our lender list. Lenders vary according to customer service features, the loan fees they levy, and incentives offered for discounts off the interest rate once you enter into repayment.
5. Notify us of your Lender
We cannot certify your loan unless we know which lender you have chosen. If you have not borrowed a Federal Stafford loan at UAS before or are changing lenders, notify us by submitting the Federal Stafford Lender Request form.
If you have borrowed a Federal Stafford loan at UAS before and wish to borrow again with the same lender, lender notification is not required.
6. Submit a Promissory Note
Submit a Master Promissory Note (MPN) if you wish to borrow from a participating lender in the Federal Stafford Loan program, and:
- you have not borrowed a federal Stafford loan before; or
- you have borrowed a federal Stafford loan before, but want to change your lender.
You will need the complete names, addresses and phone numbers of two references, one of whom is an adult relative. Submit the MPN electronically at the website of one of our lenders.
Note: a parent who is interested in a Parent Loan for Undergraduate Students (PLUS) must also submit a promissory note for the PLUS loan. S/he can do so electronically at the website of one of our lenders.
7. Complete student loan entrance counseling
Complete Stafford Entrance Loan Counseling if you are applying for the Federal Stafford Loan for the first time at UAS. Counseling is a federal requirement that must be met before funds may be disbursed.
