Terms and Conditions

This page includes all the terms and conditions of your financial aid awards. You are expected to read and understand this information. Review Frequently Asked Questions, or contact our office if you have any questions.

Your award of financial aid is subject to the conditions on this form and other enclosures with your notification of financial aid award. Your award notice may also indicate a recommended loan or loans.

Additional aid

You must notify our office if you receive additional funding that is not listed on this offer of financial aid. If you receive more funding than your estimated cost of attendance, we are required to adjust your award offer to avoid an over award situation. This affects loans first, then federal work-study awards, and finally other grants (except the Pell Grants, which can not be reduced).

Disbursement

Federal Pell, Federal SEOG, tuition waivers and most loans and scholarships will be credited to your account at the UAS Student Accounts Office. If your aid is disbursed after charges have been paid in full, a check will be issued to you within 14 working days. Please contact the Financial Aid Office in your address is incorrect. Paper financial aid checks will be available at the Student Accounts Office after receipt and processing by the Financial Aid Office. Tuition, fees and other charges due the university will be deducted from financial aid awards before disbursement to the student.

Academic Requirements

You must be formally admitted to a degree or certificate program. Even though you can receive certain types of aid for part-time enrollment, most programs require full-time enrollment, which is 12 or more credits each semester for undergraduates and 9 or more credits each semester for graduate students./p>

Satisfactory Academic Progress

You are expected to familiarize yourself with the Financial Aid Office Satisfactory Academic Progress Policy as it applies to all students, including the maximum time frame for completion of your degree program. At the time of disbursement all students are expected to have met the criteria outlined in the policy. Copies are available at our office as well as on-line.

By accepting the financial aid award, you agree and understand that:
  • You authorize the Financial Aid Office to release enrollment, academic, and financial information to any agency to whom you have applied for assistance.
  • You will notify the Financial Aid Office of any change in enrollment, change in residence, on or off campus or the receipt of additional funding.
  • THE FINANCIAL AID OFFICE HAS THE RIGHT TO REVIEW OR CHANGE THE AWARD AT ANY TIME BECAUSE OF CHANGES IN YOUR STATUS, AVAILABILITY OF STATE AND FEDERAL FUNDS, OR ANY ERROR OR FALSE INFORMATION ON YOUR APPLICATION.
  • You have the right to request an explanation of how your eligibility for financial aid was determined, how the budget was constructed and what other resources are available to you.
Total Withdrawal

If you withdraw from all classes, you may be liable for a refund and/or repayment of financial aid paid to you during the semester. A refund refers to the amount the school must refund to you based upon the Federal Program’s refund policy. This amount will first be applied to the financial aid programs from which you received aid. A repayment of financial aid occurs when a cash disbursement made to you for living expenses is greater than the living expenses incurred while you were enrolled. If a refund or repayment in excess of UAS’s refund policy is required, you will be charged this amount and you must pay it at the UAS Student Accounts Office.

Taxable Financial Aid

According to the Tax Reform Act of 1986, all scholarships, fellowships, and federal financial aid grants are counted as taxable income to the extent these awards, either individually or together, exceed the cost of tuition and related expenses. It is the student’s responsibility to report all such aid on his or her federal tax return.

Correspondence

We use email as the primary means of communicating official financial aid information. Once you are enrolled at UAS, we will send all correspondence to your UAS student email account.
